What is an SDD3?
The SDD3 by NEXT Stormwater Solutions is a hydrodynamic oil and grit separator that uses both gravitational and centrifugal forces to capture and retain suspended sediments, floating particles, and oils from stormwater runoff.
Its unique design ensures optimal treatment performance during both light and heavy rainfall events, effectively improving water quality before discharge.
How It Works

STEP 1
-
The SDD3 is designed to enhance centrifugal forces while minimizing turbulence.
-
In a stationary state (no inflow), it provides large storage capacity for sediments and oils.
-
Runoff water enters via the main line (series installation) or a bypass line (parallel installation).

STEP 2
-
At low flows, gravitational force is the dominant mechanism.
-
As flow increases, centrifugal forces intensify, improving oil and sediment removal.
-
Twin vortices ensure high removal efficiency, even at peak flow rates.
-
Sediments settle at the bottom, while oils are stored separately to prevent recontamination.

STEP 3
-
During heavy rainfall, the SDD3’s internal bypass prevents sediment resuspension or washout.
-
This feature allows for both online and offline configurations, ensuring continuous performance under all conditions.
